When something breaks around the house, the fast and frugal answer is usually to repair it on your own. However, when it comes to baby cribs, it's best to leave repairs to the experts.
According to CPSC, about 30 percent of all crib-related deaths are the result of broken crib hardware, missing parts, and do-it-yourself crib repairs. The problem with crib repairs made at home is that common repair supplies, such as duct tape, wire, and zip ties, will eventually stretch or break, which could allow baby to be injured or killed.
If the potential safety risks aren't enough, you could be in legal trouble, too, if you try to repair a crib and it results in tragedy. CPSC reports that "police have opened criminal investigations of parents who had tried to repair broken cribs after babies died in those cribs."
