HILLMAN 40144 SCRW WD PH FL12X3/4 Box/100
The Italian job Though it bears little resemblance to the original 1969 thriller starring Michael Caine, the 2003 remake of The Italian job stands on its own as a caper comedy that’s well above average. The title’s a misnomer–this time it’s actually a Los Angeles job–but the action’s just as exciting as it propels a […]
Hockey fight camp for kids
Filed under: health and Safety, Lifestyle, Pre-teen, Teenager, SportsAs a teenager, I was really in to hockey. Actually, I was in to hockey players, but I also enjoyed the game itself. My best friend lived within walking distance of an ice rink and we spent countless afternoons perched in the bleachers watching the Houston Aeros practice. I am not a fan of violence and the fighting in hockey eventually turned me off of the game. But for many fans, the body slams and punches are what makes hockey exciting. And while some are calling for fighting to be banned in the National Hockey League, others say it is an integral part of the game.Whether or not fighting should be tolerated in hockey is debatable. I don’t want to see fights, so I don’t go. But when you start teaching young kids how to injure their hockey opponents, that is a different story. But that is exactly what Derek “the Boogeyman” Boogard, a player for the Minnesota Wild, is doing. His one-day hockey camp costs $40 and instead of teaching his 12 to 18-year-old students the finer points of the game, he is teaching them how to brutally attack players on the other team. He claims he is teaching them self-defense, yet students receive t-shirts splashed with fake blood while watching video replays of Boogard crushing another player’s cheekbone. And then he teaches them how to do that themselves.parents clearly support this brutality, otherwise they wouldn’t be enrolling their children in this camp. In any other sport, teaching children to be unsportsmanlike and violent would be considered shocking. Why is it accepted in the game of hockey?Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Britney, mom, now hitting each other
Filed under: Celebrity kids, Rumors, Celebrity parentsJust when you thought the battle between Britney Spears and the mother she estranged through poetry couldn’t get any worse, MSNBC reports that the pair’s relationship has descended into physical violence. According to the site’s gossip column, a recent encounter between Crazy Spears and Mama Spears resulted in a “shocking slapfest.” Apparently Britney’s mom “barged into the house” and demanded to take her grandkids out for some “private time,” — all the while “denigrating Britney’s mother skills.” Not surprisingly, things went downhill from there. This, incidentally, was the fight that led to Britney hand-delivering court papers to her mother — documents that bar mama from seeing Sean Preston and Jayden James. Sure, at first the thought of a mother and grandmother smacking each other around in front of the kids seems disturbing, but maybe this is what these two need to finally resolve this domestic disagreement. I envision a full-scale boxing match, Britney in one corner, mama Spears in the other — complete with TV cameras, endorsement deals, and maybe even hosted by Jerry Springer. As far as I can tell, it’d be the most fitting end to this otherwise depressing little saga.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
